On April 15, the Beauty Club held its monthly meeting with guest speaker Lichina “China” Hill.  Lichina owns HaVen Salon Boutique and is a licensed cosmetologist who has been in business for 7 years and has worked in a previous corporation salon for nearly 20 years. Lichina began her hair career styling family and friends at just 14 years old while living in Camden, New Jersey. She enjoys coloring, cutting, and natural styling while focusing on the health of her client’s scalp which she believes is the key to maintaining healthy hair.

The 7 girls that participated began by each receiving a button all a different color. The buttons were a symbol for the girls to tell them that they are all different, unique, and beautifully made in God’s eyes. After this experience, Lichina talked to the girls about the process of becoming a hairstylist, how to properly maintain their natural hair, and how to stay away from alcohol products. As well as informing the girls on things not to do like wearing braids for over a month, moisturizers to avoid, and how to identify the difference between shedding and breakage. 

This workshop was both an ecstatic and amazing learning experience for the girls.

Girls in the Teens Have Visions 2 Inc., healthcare club --or Junior Sistahs in Medicine, as they will be called--will have the opportunity to conduct some of their meetings on the PCOM South Georgia campus, thus allowing club members to be fully immersed in a medical school environment, Mitchell explained.

"They can see it and feel it. That's the thing for [Teens Have Visions 2 Inc.] --I thought that would be good to bring them to the school setting ...

Pittman and McHugh both agreed on the significance of volunteerism--reaching back to the younger generation, breaking down stereotypes, and changing perspectives in the community through representation and mentorship while providing youth with the guidance that could one day translate for their own medical careers.

The Raising Her Project hosted its 9th workshop in partnership with The Yellow Elephant Ministry to enlighten families on ways to deal with grief during the holidays . 

The Raising Her Project hosted its 7th workshop in partnership with Hope House Parenting Center last night to bring awareness to Suicide Prevention. 

Guest Speaker- Cathy Nobles, Counselor/Author presented the participants with much information and resources available when seeking professional help. 

Some participants had the opportunity to win a book and signing from Mrs. Nobles collection. First Aid kits were provided by The Raising Her Project.

The Raising Her Project celebrated Mommy’s & Mental Health. We had 24 participants attend this workshop. Guest Speaker Vicki Colls, thanks so much for serving our community and helping bring awareness to mental health.
